The Gamecocks jumped out to an early lead in the series opener against Alabama, taking a 2-0 lead in the first inning. TJ Hopkins led off with a single, Matt Williams walked, and Alex Destino knocked a base hit to get Hopkins home. Chris Cullen followed with a single of his own to bring in the second run of the inning.
The Crimson Tide cut the lead in the half in the third inning, courtesy of a solo homer from Cody Henry. Alabama then took the lead in the fourth inning, when Chandler Taylor belted a two-run shot to put the Tide up 3-2.
