After spending an unprecedented three weeks in Columbia to start the season, the South Carolina Gamecocks will finally hit the road to Nashville, Tenn., for a date with Vanderbilt on Sept. 22. No game against the Commodores is ever particularly enjoyable, and things tend to get a little weird in their neck of the woods — the last time South Carolina traveled there, it needed a miracle 55-yard field goal from Elliott Fry to win coach Will Muschamp’s debut by a riveting 13-10 margin. We’ll see what absurdity 2018 has in store.
Last meeting: In typical series fashion, last season’s contest against the Commodores was a frustrating and nailbiting affair that resulted in a 34-27 victory for the Gamecocks, but felt less like a win and more like a three-hour root canal.
