MOBILE, Ala. – Troy left-hander Max Newton struck out five in a season-high seven innings pitched, and the Trojans scored seven runs over the final three innings to defeat the University of South Alabama baseball team 10-2 in Saturday's rubber match at Stanky Field.
Newton (3-4) allowed two runs on eight hits with five strikeouts without issuing a walk to earn the win.
South Alabama (30-25, 16-14 Sun Belt) will return to action next week when it opens play in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament in Conway, S.
