MOBILE, Ala. – Guided by a strong defensive effort, South Alabama brought the fight to North Texas but could not do enough to catch up late in a 36-22 defeat Saturday afternoon at DATCU Stadium.

The loss dropped the Jaguars to 1-4 on the season.

KEY MOMENTS

  • Facing a fourth and goal from the two-yard line on its opening possession, South Alabama quarterback Bishop Davenport punched the ball into the end zone to give the Jags an early, 7-0 lead.
  • With North Texas threatening to score to start the second quarter, Trent Thomas recorded a tackle for loss and then a sack on back-to-back plays to back the Mean Green out of field goal range and force a punt.
