NEW ORLEANS | Alexa Strandberg was named the Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Week as announced by the league on Tuesday.
Strandberg's selection marks the 37th SBC Weekly Award selection in program history, and the 10th time that a Jaguar has earned the defensive award. The selection is the first for the award by a South Alabama defender since Nikki Capizzi did so during week one of the 2023 season. Both her and Capizzi are the lone middle in program history to receive the weekly honor.
The redshirt freshman was a force at the net for the Jags this past weekend as she had 17 total blocks – eight solo and nine assists – and averaged 1.
