The Carolina Panthers' playoff berth nearly slipped through quarterback Cam Newton's hands. But the quarterback scooped up the football and plowed into the end zone with 35 seconds to play to lift Carolina to a 22-19 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday.
The victory secured a playoff position for the Panthers and kept Carolina in the running for the NFC South title.
Newton had a tough day through the air against Tampa Bay. When the Panthers got possession with three minutes to play trailing 19-15, Newton had completed 12-of-18 passes for 108 yards with no touchdowns and one interception.
