South Alabama running back Xavier Johnson has been suspended for the remainder of the season for an undisclosed violation of team rules, the school announced Saturday.
Johnson, a senior, leads the Jaguars with 445 yards and six touchdowns this season. He is USA's all-time leader in rushing yards (2,670) and all-purpose yards (4,094), but it appears his college career is now over.
The announcement came less than an hour before the Jaguars (3-5, 2-2 Sun Belt) hosted Louisiana-Lafayette (3-4, 2-2) at Ladd-Peebles Stadium. USA currently ranks 10th in the Sun Belt in rushing offense at 129 yards per game.
