President Donald Trump on Monday night rescinded the Philadelphia Eagles' invite to celebrate their Super Bowl championship at the White House, issuing a statement about 20 hours before a ceremony was expected to take place.
Trump said in the statement some Eagles players were not planning to attend and indicated that he would not welcome a small portion of the team. The White House will instead hold a ceremony for fans who had been invited previously.

Trump has been critical of players who demonstrated during the national anthem to protest social injustices and police brutality, a movement which former 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick catalyzed in 2016.
