South Alabama's Mark Calvi says he turned down Tennessee job, hasn't heard from South Carolina

South Alabama baseball coach Mark Calvi told AL.com on Wednesday that he turned down the head coaching job at Tennessee in order to remain with the Jaguars.

"I was offered the job by Tennessee yesterday and turned it down," Calvi said. "I have a great boss. I love it here. I don't just jump at anything. The right things matter to me."

Tennessee announced Wednesday that it had hired Arkansas assistant Tony Vitello as head coach. Dave Serrano resigned last month following six seasons with the Volunteers.

Calvi added that he has had no contact with South Carolina, which saw head baseball coach Chad Holbrook resign on Tuesday.
