South Alabama's Jimmie Gipson back for last hurrah after 2 lost years

South Alabama was supposed to be a two-year experience for Jimmie Gipson, but it's turned into four.

The former junior-college transfer began his sixth year of college football on Sunday, when the Jaguars opened fall camp. Gipson has missed the last two years due to left-leg injuries, a torn Achilles tendon suffered during the summer of 2015 and a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his knee last fall.

Gipson had to apply to the NCAA for a medical redshirt, allowing him to return this fall. After sitting out the spring, he was back on the field on Sunday, competing for a starting job at defensive end.
