South Alabama's Brendan Donovan signs with Cardinals, report says

Former South Alabama third baseman Brendan Donovan has signed with the St. Louis Cardinals a week after being selected in the MLB draft, according to MLB.com's Jim Callis.

Donovan, drafted in the seventh round (No. 213 overall) last Tuesday, received a signing bonus of $200,300, according to the report. The junior from Enterprise will now be assigned to one of the Cardinals' minor-league affiliates.

Donovan, who also played shortstop and right field during his career at South Alabama, batted.
