South Alabama turns toward another tough road task at Appalachian State

South Alabama's September road gauntlet continues this weekend against one of the top teams in the Sun Belt Conference.

After traveling to Oklahoma State and Memphis already this season, the Jaguars (1-3, 1-0 Sun Belt) head to Boone, N.C., for a battle with Appalachian State (2-1, 0-0) on Saturday. The Mountaineers have pummeled Charlotte and Gardner-Webb by a combined 117-16 for their two victories and suffered their lone loss 45-38 in overtime at Penn State.

"Appy State's a great football team," South Alabama coach Steve Campbell said. "They're No. 6 in the nation in total defense. Offensively, they put up 70 (points) this past week.
