A five-run first inning and a workmanlike effort from Thomas Huston sparked South Alabama to a 9-4 victory over Texas State on Saturday at Stanky Field.
With the win, the Jaguars (27-17, 14-6 Sun Belt Conference) clinch the three-game weekend series from the Bobcats (22-22, 9-11). South Alabama goes for the sweep at 11 a.m. Sunday.
"We got on base early and we made their guy throw a lot of pitches," South Alabama right fielder Brendan Donovan said. "We found some barrels and put up five in the first. That's a good start and allowed Thomas Huston to go out there and give us a great effort like he always does.
