South Alabama practice facility collapse caused by 'inadequate bracing,' engineer says

The collapse of South Alabama's under-construction football practice facility in July was caused by "inadequate bracing during construction," the university announced in an engineer's report released Thursday.

The university also plans to resume construction of the facility, but did not specify a time line, indicating only that it would occur after "evaluating the appropriate next steps."

The Jaguar Training Center, planned as a covered but not enclosed facility, collapsed at approximately 2:15 p.m. on July 22, a Saturday afternoon. The area around the construction site remains closed off and guarded by security while the university's insurance company and engineers conducted their investigation.
