South Alabama has landed the first football verbal commitment of the Steve Campbell era.
Jones County (Miss.) Junior College cornerback Travis Reed has verbally committed to the Jaguars, a source confirmed to AL.com. Reed is expected to make an official visit to South Alabama this weekend and then sign with the Jaguars when the early signing period begins Dec. 20.
The 6-foot-2, 175-pound Reed was a second-team All-MACJC selection in 2017, when he totaled 18 tackles, an interception and a fumble recovery at JCJC. A two-year starter for the Bobcats, he is originally from Meridian, Mississippi.
Campbell took over at South Alabama last Friday after four seasons at Central Arkansas.
