South Alabama football getting thin at guard position

South Alabama will conduct its first full scrimmage of the spring on Thursday, but is getting dangerously thin at one offensive line position.

The departure of junior Nelson Santiago and injuries to senior Tyler Grimsley and junior Matt Stefin has left the Jaguars with just three healthy scholarship guards as the midway point in the spring approaches. Converted defensive tackle Roy Albritton and junior Rowan Godwin have been working with the first team, with redshirt freshman Hadon Merchant backing up both spots.

"That was a spot that we were thin coming into spring," South Alabama coach Steve Campbell said.
