South Alabama drops series-opener to Georgia Southern, 4-3 in 10 innings

To say Georgia Southern scratched out a 4-3 victory over South Alabama on Friday night would be putting it mildly.

The Eagles managed seven hits in 4-3, 10-inning victory over the first-place Jaguars in the opener of a three-game Sun Belt Conference series at Stanky Field. Only two of those hits — all singles — left the infield, with the remainder a collection of bunts, bleeders and infield choppers that South Alabama could not field cleanly.

"I credit Georgia Southern," South Alabama coach Mark Calvi said. "A lot of those choppers were with two strikes. They did a good job of putting the ball in play with two strikes.
