South Alabama designated hitter Colton Thomas is out for the season due to complications from a broken arm, Jaguars coach Mark Calvi told AL.com on Tuesday.
Thomas suffered a fractured right ulna when he was hit by a pitch during preseason practice in February. He had been looking to return in mid-March, but the injury did not heal as hoped, Calvi said.
Thomas, a senior from Prattville, will take a redshirt season and will return for a fifth year in 2019. The former Marbury High School star batted .327/.444/.505 with six doubles, four home runs, 18 RBI, 30 runs scored and five steals in 37 games as the Jaguars' primary DH in 2016.
