South Alabama coaching search 'moving,' but no interviews conducted so far

South Alabama athletic director Joel Erdmann told AL.com Tuesday that while the school's search for a new head football coach is "moving," no formal interviews with candidates have yet taken place.

Current coach Joey Jones announced his resignation on Nov. 20, and will lead the Jaguars for the final time Saturday at New Mexico State before stepping down after nine seasons. Erdmann said he hopes to have a new coach in place by the beginning of the early signing period Dec. 20, but that's not a fixed deadline.

"We're very aware of the early signing date," Erdmann said.
