South Alabama basketball player Joe Thompson has left the program and intends to transfer, he announced via social media on Thursday.
The 6-foot-7 Thompson played in 26 games off the bench as a freshman in 2017-18, averaging 11.5 minutes per game. He averaged 2.7 points and 2.6 rebounds.
South Alabama basketball spokesman Matt Horne confirmed to AL.com on Friday morning that Thompson had been released from his scholarship. In a Twitter post, Thompson indicated he was leaving the Jaguars due to the transition from former coach Matthew Graves to newly hired Richie Riley:
