South Alabama allowed six unanswered runs in the final five innings in an 8-5 loss at Georgia Southern Friday night in both teams' Sun Belt Conference opener.
The Jaguars (9-9, 0-1 Sun Belt) led 5-2 after four innings, but never scored again off three relievers for the Eagles (10-7, 1-0). Georgia Southern scored two runs in the fifth inning, two in the seventh and two in the eighth to win going away.
South Alabama starter Randy Bell (0-2) took the loss, allowing six runs (four earned) on eight hits in 6 2/3 innings. Reliever Adam Adair allowed the other two runs in the eighth inning.
