Short-handed South Alabama outslugs Troy 10-6 to even series

South Alabama was without its regular battery Friday night, but still managed a 10-6 victory over Troy at Stanky Field to even their weekend Sun Belt Conference series at a game apiece.

Starting pitcher Randy Bell was scratched due to illness, sending scheduled Saturday Tyler Carr to the mound. And the Jaguars learned some distressing news about starting catcher Jared Barnes, who is likely out for the season with a finger injury suffered in Thursday's series-opener.

Nevertheless, the Jaguars (35-19, 21-8 Sun Belt) powered through against the Trojans, thanks in large part to a pair of three-run homers by Travis Swaggerty and Wells Davis.
