New South Alabama OC Richard Owens: 'Everything's been a whirlwind'

The job is not exactly new for Richard Owens, but it's definitely different.

After spending the last year-plus as South Alabama's offensive line coach and the year before that as tight ends coach, Owens became the Jaguars' offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach on Monday following the departure of Bryant Vincent. The 36-year-old Owens, a former NFL tight end, will be in the booth calling plays when South Alabama (1-3) travels to Louisiana Tech (2-2) for its final non-conference game of the season on Saturday.

"I've been up in the box before, I've called plays before," said Owens, who was UAB's offensive coordinator in 2013.
