NEW ORLEANS – University of South Alabama baseball left-hander Zach Melton was named the Sun Belt Conference Pitcher of the Week, as announced by the league office Tuesday.
Melton tossed six no-hit innings while striking out nine and issuing one walk in his first career start in Saturday's 32-0 combined shutout of Eastern Illinois. The Foley, Ala., native retired the final 13 batters he faced in the game following a two-out walk in the second inning.
Melton combined with left-hander Andy Arguelles and right-hander Tyler Perez to record the Jaguars' first shutout of the season, and the first since USA shut out Texas-Arlington on May 27 in last year's SBC Tournament in San Marcos, Texas.
