Maaseiah Francis hopes to be 'chosen one' for South Alabama passing game in 2017

Maaseiah is a common name in the Bible, one that is referenced 21 different times according to biblegateway.com.

But it's an unusual name on the football field. And the South Alabama player who goes by that name is a rarity as well.

Tight end Maaseiah Francis enters spring practice as by far the Jaguars' most experienced and accomplished receiver, the only returning player on the team who caught a touchdown pass in 2016. The 6-foot-3, 215-pound junior caught 18 passes for 261 yards and two touchdowns in his first season at USA after transferring from junior college, serving as the primary back-up to All-Sun Belt tight end Gerald Everett.
