Defensive coordinator Kane Wommack will serve as South Alabama's interim football coach until a new head coach is hired, a source confirmed to AL.com on Sunday.
Former head coach Joey Jones announced his resignation Nov. 20, effective at the end of the season. The Jaguars finished the year Saturday with a 22-17 loss at New Mexico State, dropping them to 4-8 in Jones' final season.

The 30-year-old Wommack has been South Alabama's defensive coordinator the last two seasons. Prior to joining the USA staff, he was defensive coordinator at Eastern Illinois for two seasons.
