Joey Jones on time at South Alabama: 'It's been a blast'

A day after resigning as head football coach at South Alabama, Joey Jones looked back on his nine-year tenure with fondness.

"It's been a blast," Jones said Tuesday. "I'm happy for South Alabama. It'll be in my heart forever."

The school announced Monday that Jones will not return in 2018, his contract set to expire in March. The Jaguars are 4-7 this season, and will miss out on a bowl game for the second time in three years.

Two days after South Alabama lost 52-0 on Saturday to Georgia Southern, Jones told athletics director Joel Erdmann, his assistant coaches and his players that he was stepping down.
