NEW ORLEANS – The University of South Alabama soccer program swept the two major preseason Sun Belt Conference awards and was picked to finish first as the league released its all-conference teams Wednesday afternoon.
Senior Hannah Godfrey was voted the SBC Defensive Player of the Year and junior Kory Dixon was tabbed the Offensive Player of the Year. The Jaguars received 117 points and seven first-place votes in the poll.
A native of Thornton-Cleveleys, England, Godfrey earns the preseason player-of-the-year award for the second consecutive season. She started all 21 games and played a team-high 1,935 minutes a season ago, while leading a defense that ranked second in goals against average and tied for first in shutouts.
