Faith, attitude change helped South Alabama's Evan Orth secure starting quarterback job

"Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds/because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance./ Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything." -- James 1:2-4

Evan Orth was frustrated, and time was running out on his college football career.

The spring of Orth's senior year at South Alabama was nearly over, and he had made no headway toward becoming the Jaguars' starting quarterback. As USA prepared to play its Red-Blue spring game last April, Orth was fourth among four scholarship quarterbacks on the depth chart, behind fellow seniors Dallas Davis and Cole Garvin, and even redshirt freshman Cephus Johnson.
