EARLY GOAL THE DIFFERENCE IN TEXAS STATE’S WIN OVER SOCCER

MOBILE, Ala. – Texas State scored in the 10th minute and held on for a 1-0 victory against the University of South Alabama soccer team Sunday afternoon at The Cage.

The Bobcats even their overall record at 5-5 and stay unbeaten in the Sun Belt Conference at 3-0. The Jaguars drop to 3-7 and 1-2.

GAME FACTS
- South Alabama outshot Texas State 18-8, including 11-2 in the second half alone
- Texas State's Kaylee Davis, who came into the contest second in the league in goals, scored her seventh of the game at 9:18, blasting her shot into the upper left corner
- Davis almost doubled the lead 16 minutes later when she got USA goalkeeper Justice Stanford going the wrong way, but Stanford made a diving stop to her left
- Freshman Moa Öhman fed sophomore Ana Helmert into space in the 29th minute, but Helmert's close-range shot was stopped by Heather Martin
- Senior Hannah Godfrey got her head on a corner kick and directed it into the upper left corner at 34:25, but Martin made another save to maintain the shutout
- Martin tipped a direct kick from freshman Brenna McPartlan over the bar in the 57th minute
- A ruling of offsides negated a South Alabama goal at 57:17
- Martin came up big again for the Bobcats with just over a minute remaining in the contest, diving back to save a shot from Helmert on the goal line that initially squeezed under Martin
- Martin finished the contest with 10 saves for her third clean sheet of the season
- Stanford made one save while facing eight shots
- McPartlan led all players with six shots and three on goal; Helmert and Godfrey recorded three shots and two shots on goal apiece

- Sunday's loss was South Alabama's second consecutive 1-0 defeat
- The Jags have outshot their last two opponents 44-22 overall and 21-6 on goal
- After starting the season 3-0 when outshooting its opponent, USA has lost its last two
- The Bobcats ended a four-game losing streak to the Jaguars and trail in the series 1-5-1
