David Freese off to hot start for Pittsburgh Pirates

The hottest-hitting third baseman with Alabama baseball roots in the Major Leagues so far this season hasn't been three-time All-Star Josh Donaldson of the Toronto Blue Jays. Instead, David Freese has gotten off to a strong start for the Pittsburgh Pirates.

And it isn't because Donaldson hasn't hit well for the Blue Jays.

Donaldson was presented his second Silver Slugger Award as the American League's best-hitting third baseman earlier this week in Toronto and is batting .310 with two home runs and two doubles through nine games this season.

But Donaldson has had to leave two games, appear as a pinch-hitter in another contest and play designated hitter in two because of a calf problem.
