Dallas Davis threw for 2,706 yards and 11 interceptions as South Alabama's primary starting quarterback last season, leading the Jaguars to an upset of Mississippi State and the school's second bowl appearance.

But Davis had shoulder surgery during the offseason and Cole Garvin, who led the Jags to an upset of San Diego State in one of his three starts last year, claimed the job in preseason camp while Davis' recovery continued until just a couple of weeks before the season started.

Garvin suffered a sprained ankle in last week's 44-7 loss to Oklahoma State last week, however, and Davis found himself back at the controls of the Jaguars' offense.
