MORGANTOWN, W. Va. – No. 25 University of South Alabama catcher Jared Barnes was named the National Hitter of the Week by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association on Tuesday. The NCBWA Board reviews candidates from each Division I conference each week and names winners each Tuesday throughout the season.
Barnes batted .556 (10-for-18) with four doubles, three home runs, 13 RBI and four runs scored while posting a 1.278 slugging percentage and .524 on-base percentage in four games last week. He hit safely in all four contests, tallying multiple hits in each game, and drove in at least one run in each game including three multi-RBI performances.
