Alabama softball blanks South Alabama 1-0 in season-opener behind Alexis Osorio 3-hitter

One run was enough for Alabama softball pitcher Alexis Osorio on Thursday night.

Osorio pitched a three-hit shutout as the 10th-ranked Crimson Tide beat South Alabama 1-0 at Jaguar Field to open the 2018 season. Osorio, a senior two-time All-American, struck out eight and walked three, working out of jams in the third, fourth and fifth innings.

Alabama broke a scoreless tie in the top of the third after loading the bases on a walk, bunt single and an intentional walk. Gabby Callaway drilled the ball off the glove of USA first baseman Abby Krzywiecki before it was corralled by second baseman Kaleigh Todd for a groundout, which allowed Sydney Booker to score with the game's first run.
