Women's World Cup: Morgan leads U.S. to quarterfinal berth

The striker scored her first goal of the tournament and drew a red card and penalty kick in the United States' 2-0 win over Colombia.

EDMONTON, Alberta — Alex Morgan couldn't recall the last time she had found the back of the net. It wasn't even that long ago: three and a half months, in an Algarve Cup win over Switzerland.

But this is Morgan we're talking about — she of the 52 goals in 88 caps. So when the U.S. national team striker slipped in a near-post shot in the 53rd minute of Monday's 2-0 win over Colombia, it was a moment of catharsis.
