USWNT's Megan Rapinoe to Be 1st Soccer Player to Get Presidential Medal of Freedom

The United States women's national soccer team announced Friday that star forward Megan Rapinoe is set to receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

Per Meg Linehan of The Athletic, the honor will be bestowed upon Rapinoe on July 7.

It will mark a historic moment for Rapinoe, as she is set to become the first soccer player to ever receive the medal and only the sixth female athlete or coach, joining gymnast Simone Biles, tennis player Billie Jean King, women’s basketball coach Pat Summitt and golfers Annika Sorenstam and Babe Didrikson Zaharias.
