USWNT’s Holiday retires from international soccer

The midfielder announced her intention to spend more time focusing on family life.

Fresh off winning the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup, Lauren Holiday is ready to go out on top.

The U.S. national team midfielder, who scored the third, and ultimately winning, goal in the 5-2 final victory over Japan on Sunday, confirmed the news to Sports Illustrated's Grant Wahl on Tuesday.

A (happy) tearful Lauren Holiday just confirmed she's retiring from USWNT at 27. Says has given last 10 years to national team. Family now.

Lauren Holiday said she'd continue playing club ball with KC this season.
