After Jose Mourinho and Inter Milan in 2010, a wait of five seasons, an Italian club is at last back in a Champions League final. Juventus, meanwhile, have been waiting for 12 long years to play in a final in which they previously had reached four times in seven years.
Back in the 1990s, Spanish versus Italian finals were a reasonably regular occurrence, with Spanish clubs winning two, and Italy one. Barcelona's first ever European Cup was won at Wembley in 1992, courtesy of a Ronald Koeman free kick, but the club's most painful day of all came two years later, when AC Milan destroyed them 4-0 in Athens.
