Tuchel: Gotze took the hard path but I want to see him laugh again

The 24-year-old returned to the club he left controversially in 2013 and his new coach says he sees him as a crucial player in their bid to challenge Bayern Munich

Thomas Tuchel has praised Mario Gotze after he secured his return Borussia Dortmund from Bayern Munich, but says he wants to see the midfielder laugh again.

Gotze was heavily criticized when, as the jewel in a Dortmund attack that won back-to-back Bundesliga titles under Tuchel's predecessor Jurgen Klopp, he agreed a switch to Bayern during the closing weeks of the 2012-13 season.

Bayern beat Dortmund in that season's Champions League final, with Gotze an injury absentee, but the man who went on to score the winning goal in the 2014 World Cup final was unable to make an impression over three subsequent seasons at the Allianz Arena.
