Spain’s soccer federation said it was suspending league and cup matches starting May 16 in protest of a proposed law on the sale of television rights and the division of the revenue. The law would regulate the rights to broadcast first- and second-division games as well as Copa del Rey and Supercup matches. The last two rounds of the Spanish league schedule, along with the Copa del Rey final on May 30, fall after the start of the federation’s “indefinite strike.”
A version of this brief appears in print on May 7, 2015, on page B14 of the New York edition with the headline: Spain Will Suspend Matches.
