Spanish Ministry of Health Confirms No Laws Broken in Éric Abidal’s Liver Transplant

The National Transplant Organization, a part of the Spanish Ministry of Health, Social Services and Equality, has confirmed today that Éric Abidal’s liver transplant was done according to the law.

The ONT (as its known in Spanish) finished an investigation following allegations in the media that Barcelona had paid someone for the liver, which would be considered organ trafficking, a serious crime.

The organization says it checked every part they could check for irregularities, and found none, according to clinical and health standards.

The organization also said that, contrary to media reports, Abidal was on the waiting list for a new liver.
