Sources: Freddy Adu leaves Finnish club to pursue options in MLS and NASL

The former U.S. national team player is heading back home after exercising his option to leave Finnish side KuPs in order to pursue club opportunities stateside.

Freddy Adu went to the tiny Finnish League in hopes of reviving his career, but after less than half a season with first-division side KuPS, the former U.S. national team star is heading back home.

Sources have confirmed to Goal USA that Adu exercised the option in his contract to leave KuPS this summer and will now pursue club opportunities in the United States.

The 26-year-old midfielder saw his stint with the Finnish club start off in promising fashion, as he started in four straight matches and helped lead the club to a 3-0-1 start.
