It was Ireland who took the lead through Browne when he tapped the ball home from a couple of yards out after receiving a nice flick from Hogan. Bulgaria then equalised from a Popov penalty, which was awarded following a challenge by Egan on Kraev. However, Ireland would not lie down and scored two goals in three minutes to ensure they claimed victory.
