Pumas' Libertadores run could make season worthwhile

The capital club has struggled in the league with the focus on the South American club championship, a decision that looks to be paying off.

It hasn't been easy for Pumas this season.

The Mexico City side barely missed out on a league title last tournament and looks unlikely to make it back to the postseason in this year's Clausura. Instead, Guillermo "Memo" Vazquez has decided to go for the Copa Libertadores, the white whale of tournaments for Mexican clubs.

That decision could pay off, with Pumas into the quarterfinals of the South American club championship for the first time after a 2-0 victory Tuesday over Deportivo Tachira.
