Mexico came out victorious in game one of the Gold Cup against the Dominican Republic, but it was not a great performance against a team who made their first appearance in the tournament. For a team that is making its way into the international stage, the Dominican Republic were able to make the defending champions uncomfortable and were close to drawing the game level near the end. Now Mexico will focus on their next game as they prepare to play against Suriname Wednesday night meanwhile the Dominican Republic will face Costa Rica where a win is a must.
Mexico was given a dangerous opportunity within the first two minutes of the game after Santiago Gimenez was fouled at the edge of the box.
