On their 35th anniversary, Club Santos put on a dominant performance, defeating Club León 3-0. The hosts had too much going forward, and was ultimately able to capitalize on León’s inability to convert their chances.
Ayrton Preciado got the start over midfielder Osvaldo Martínez, who was withheld from the lineup as a precaution due to an aggravation of his left knee.
Neither team was able to get much of anything going early on, as play consisted of a lot of back-passing and hopeful balls forward that were usually well intercepted by the defensive backs. It could have been due to the similarity between the teams’ uniforms, with both playing in green and white.
