Manchester United women beat Liverpool with Lizzie Arnot strike

Manchester United women picked up a 1-0 win at Prenton Park against Liverpool on Sunday afternoon.

United are fielding a women's team for the first time since 2005 and signed seven players from Liverpool this summer, while appointing former England international Casey Stoney as manager.

Lizzie Arnot had the first chance for United but dragged her shot wide of the post early on before Jess Sigsworth headed past the post from a corner.

Neil Redfearn's Liverpool side had the ball in the net just before half-time but it was ruled out for an earlier foul.

There was still time for Alex Greenwood to go close for United and then Sigsworth saw a one-on-one effort saved by Liverpool and Germany goalkeeper Anke Preuss.
