Liverpool beat Stoke on penalties

Liverpool booked their place in the Capital One Cup final with a 6-5 penalty shootout victory over Stoke City after a 1-1 draw on aggregate.

Liverpool, leading 1-0 from the first leg, were looking to reach the League Cup final for the 12th time but found their advantage cancelled out in controversial fashion at Anfield.

Marko Arnautovic appeared to be offside when he turned home Bojan Krkic's cross in first-half injury time, but the goal was allowed to stand to leave the tie level on aggregate.

Liverpool made a brighter start to the second half, with Roberto Firmino's deflected shot hitting the outside of the post shortly after the restart, but there were no further goals in the second 45 minutes and the match went to extra time.
