KC NWSL unable to hold on to lead against Washington Spirit, lose 1-2

In their first game since September 5, KC NWSL headed to the East Coast to face the Washington Spirit, the second and last meeting of the season between the two teams. It was Spirit’s first game in nearly a month after breaking the league’s medical protocols, resulting in back-to-back forfeits.

Kansas City appeared to have the edge early on, with 1-0 lead. Forward Darian Jenkins gave KC the early lead in the 9th minute, with her second goal of the season.

But just before halftime, Washington was awarded a penalty kick due to Kiki Pickett bringing down Kelly O’Hara in the box.
