LONDON — José Antonio Reyes, a Spanish soccer striker who once played for the Premier League club Arsenal, died in a car accident in Spain on Saturday at 35, his former club Sevilla FC announced on Saturday.

Sevilla said in posts on Twitter in English and Spanish that displayed the club’s crest with a black ribbon: “We couldn’t offer worse news. Our beloved player José Antonio Reyes has died in a traffic accident.”

Mr. Reyes’s car went off the highway while he was traveling between the southern city of Seville and the town of Utrera before noon on Saturday, the Spanish news agency EFE reported.
